E-bikes have continued to grow in popularity. We welcome electric bikes on MBL rides, however, it is important to recognize that e-bikes are faster, heavier, and at times less maneuverable. We ask that you review the following e-bike responsibilities and expectations so we can ensure the safety and enjoyment of all riders.
- Equipment: Understand your e-bike’s features and capabilities before you join a group ride. Make sure your e-bike has enough battery reserve to comfortably complete the ride.
- Pacing: When riding in a group, please maintain the pace and style of the other riders in the group, especially when climbing hills or riding against headwind. If you’re a newer rider or unsure of the group dynamics, it’s always better to ride at the back of the group.
- Starting/Stopping: Your heavier e-bike will likely need more stopping distance than standard bicycles. Brake early, engage the front brake, and be cautious of the riders in front of you.
- Mounting/Dismounting: Turn off the motor (if applicable) when mounting or dismounting your E-bike to avoid the bike surging forward.
- Avoid Distractions: Pushing buttons or levers when changing assist modes could cause momentary distractions and take your eyes off the road or the bikes in front of you.
